New installation involves the placement of water and sewer lines where none have existed before.
Horizontal directional drilling (HDD) has been used for several years to install new water lines.
Using HDD methods has many advantages over open cut methods, especially in congested areas and developed neighborhoods,
and jobs that require shoring because of depth of the installations.
Because of these advantages,
there has been much focus to develop the tools that are necessary to utilize horizontal directional
drilling methods for new on-grade sewer installations. Advancements in All Terrain technology, new downhole tools,
and the development of accurate, grade beacons, have all contributed to the increased use of directional drilling for
on-grade sewer installations.
